这故事出自“战国策”。“亡羊补牢”这句成语，表达处理事情发生错误以后，如果赶紧去挽救，还不为迟的意思。例如一个事业家，因估计事情的发展犯了错误，轻举冒进，陷入失败的境地。但他并不气馁，耐心地将事情想了一遍，从这次的错误中吸取教训，认为“亡羊补牢”，从头做起，还不算晚呢！
Making the Mark
Some people were crossing the river in a boat.
一些人正坐着船过江。
One man in the boat had a beautiful sword.He was cleaning it and showing it to everyone.
船上一个人拿着一把漂亮的宝剑。他正在擦着宝剑并向每个人展示着它。
But the man wasn't careful and the sword fell into the river.
但是这个男子一不小心，宝剑掉到江里面了。
"Oh,no!"the others said."Your beautiful sword!Let's stop the boat to find it!"
“噢，不！”其他人说。“你那把漂亮的宝剑！快点停船，我们一起来找！”
"Don't worry!"said the man."I can wait!"
“不要担心！”这个男子说，“我可以等等！”
"I can find it easily."He made a mark on the boat with a small knife."There!Now I know where my sword is,"he said.
“我可以很轻易得找到它。”他用一把小刀在船边上做了一个记号。这个男子说：“这里！现在我知道我宝剑去哪了。”
Soon the boat crossed the river and the man stood up.
不一会儿，船过了江，然后这个男子站了起来。
"Now I will find my sword,"he said.He looked for his sword under the mark on the boat,but is was not there."Where is it?"
他说：“现在我要找我的宝剑了。”他沿着船上的标记往下找着他的宝剑，但是宝剑不在那里。“宝剑在哪里？”
"Stupid man!"the others laughed."Your sword is in the river!The boat moved,but your sword did not!"
“傻瓜！”其他人开始嘲笑地说，“你的宝剑在江里！船动了，但是你的宝剑没有动！”
