8.stubborn adj.顽固的,固执的(p18)
难处理的,难对付的;(病)难治好的
(as)stubborn as a mule 倔如犟驴,非常固执的
The lock's rather stubborn;it needs oiling.
这把锁很难开;得给它加点油了。
The old man has got a stubborn cough that has lasted for weeks.
9.Although she didn't konw(p18)the best way of getting to places,she insisted that she organize the trip properly.
although/though conj.虽然,尽管
引导让步状语从句,不能再和however,but,and 连用,但可以和副词yet,still连用;although 从句多放在主句前,though 从句则可放在主句前、中、后任何位置
Although/Though(he is)in poor health,he works hard.
though adv.但是,不过(放在句末)
这是份苦差事,可他还是接受了。
It was a hard job,he took it though.
Young though/as he is,he is very rich.
even though=even if
即使,纵然,尽管,虽然
as though=as if 仿佛...一样,好像...似的
以上用法用不能用although.

insist v.坚持(认为),坚决主张
insist on/upon doing sth.坚决/坚持做某事,坚持认为
I insisted on /upon an early reply.
The man insisted on finding a taxi for me even though I told him I lived neaby.(04江苏)
他们坚决要我留在那里吃饭。
They insisted on my staying there for supper.
insist on多用于坚持意见,看法,主张等
stick to多用于坚持原则,计划,诺言,决定等(后不接动名词)
他答应过帮助我们,他没有失信。
He promised to help us and he stuck to his word.
*insist+that 从句
①“坚决主张,坚决要求”,从句中的事未发生,宾语从句用“(should)+动词原形”
She insisted that she [should](go to Beijing by air)as it was more comfortable.
②“坚持说,强调说”,从句中的事已发生,用陈述语气,按要求选择时态
He insisted that he (was right).
He insisted that he (hadn't stolen)the money.
Mother insisted that her son be punished,but her son insisted that he hadn't done anything wrong.
