1.Translation:
  1.我正在上网,这时听见有人感救命。
  2.他正要出门购物,一位不速之客来拜访。
  3.我们刚到家,这时电话铃响了。
1.Her hands had almost been cut off.
她的双手几乎被砍断了。
cut of 切下来;切断,砍下
e.g.The electricity was cut off for several days.
The enemy soldiers were cut off from the outside.
敌军与外界的联系被切断。
He was in hospital for 3months.He felt as if he was cut
off from the rest of the world.
短评归纳与拓展:
1)cut down 砍倒:降低;删掉
e.g.It is no good cutting down the trees in the forest.
The workers are doing all they can to cut down the
accident rate.
工人们正在尽一切努力降低事故率。
2)cut in 插嘴(后不带宾语)干涉
(=get in a word=bread in );
She always cuts in when other people are talking.
3)cut up 切碎;切成小块;使痛苦
(=cut sth into pieces)
e.g.A cook was cutting up the meat for making
dumplings.
厨师正在切肉包饺子
4)cut out 剪下;剪裁;删除
You'd better cut out that sentence in your writing.
5)cut through 抄近路走过;迅速通过
He cut throuth a forest to get home.
他穿过一片森林才回到家。
6)cut across 走捷径;抄近路穿过;打断
We can save time if we cut across this field.
如果我们抄近路从这田墅横穿着过去,就可以节省时间。
2.It was John's action and knowledge of first aid that
saved Ms Slade's life.
正是约翰快捷和急救知识救了斯莱德女士的命。
本句整体是一个强调句,强调的是句子的主语
John's action and knowledge of first aid.
1)基本结构:
It is/was+被强调部分+who/that......
强调“人”,用who/that;强调“物”用,that。
2)这种或式由普通陈述句转换而来,用来强调句中除谓语和定
语之外的任何成分。
Karl bought his son a  bicycle on his birthday.
卡尔在儿子生日那天给他买了一辆自行车。
It was Karl that/who bought his son a bicycle on his
birthday.(强调主语)
It was on his birthday that Karl bought a bicycle.
It was a bircycle that Karl bought his son on his
birthday.(强调直接宾语)
3)强调句中的it is /was 和that /who去掉,句子结构仍是完
整的。
4)一般疑问句:Is/Was+被强调部分+that/who....?
5)特殊疑问句:Is/Was+被强调部分+that/who其他成分?
e.g.Who is it that should be punished?
到底谁应该受到惩罚?
When is it that you get up every day?
你究竟每天什么时候起床?
6)强调句的特殊疑问句若做动词的宾语,须用陈述语序。
e.g.I don't know who it is that should be punished.
我不知道究竟谁应该受到惩罚。
I still remember where it was that I met Tom.
我仍然记得是在哪儿碰见汤姆的。
7)在含有until 引导的时间状语的否定句中,如果强调时间状
语,结构是:
It is/was not until.......that......
e.g.It was not until we entered university that we
began studying French.
我们上大学后才开始学法语。
It was not until I Came back that be knew the news.
3.He immediately asked a number of nearby people for
bandages. But when nobody could put their hands on any, his father got some tea towels and tape from their house.
他立即向旁边的一些人要绷带,在他们都没找到绷带的时候,
他的父亲就从屋里拿出一些檫杯盘的布和胶带来。
1)a number of 若干;许多
e.g. A number of boys have been absent some time during
the term.
这学期有许多男生已缺课下段时间了。
A number of my friends are carzy about hungee.
我的许多朋友热衷于蹦极。
注意:
(1)与number连用的形容词是Large或small.
a small number of students 少数同学
(2) a number做主语时,谓语动词用复数形式,
the number 做主语时,谓语动词用单数形式。
e.g.The number of students attending high schools is
becoming larger and larger.
上高中的学生人数越来越多。
2) put one's hands on 找到
e.g.Few of the students have put their hands on the
materials for their compositons.
没有几个学和青年节到适合他们的作文素材。
It's most upset that you can't put your hands on it
when you badly need something.
最气人的是当你需要某样东西时却偏偏找不到它。
4.He slowed the bleeding by applying pressure to the
wounds until the police and ambulance arrived.
他使劲地按住伤口,使血流得慢些,一直等到警察和救护车到
来。
1)apply.....to .....涂在.....表面;实施;应用;致力于
e.g.Apply the cream to your face and neck.
把面霜涂在脸上和脖了上。
We should apply theory to practice.
2)apply to涉及;适用于
School regulations apply to every student.
校规适用于每个学生
3)apply for 申请
apply for a job/post/position
申请工作/岗位/职位
apply for leave 请假
5.There is no doubt that John's quick thinking and the
first aid skills he learned at school saved MsSlade's life.
毫无疑问,是约翰敏捷的思维和在学校学到的急救技术,使得
斯莱德女士的和生命得救了。
There is no doubt.....意为“毫无疑问....."
There is 也可省略。
e.g. There is no doubt about it.
那是毫无疑问的。
There  is no doubt that we will be successful.
No doubt her death is related to her grief.
她的死无疑和她的痛苦有关。
注意:doubt后面可接介词构成短语doubt about sth,也可跟由
that 引导的同位语从句。
6.It shows that a kknowledge of first aid can  make a
real difference.
这表明简单的急救知识的确能发挥重要的作用。
1)Knowledge知识;学问
A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
一知半解是危险的事。
十大金刚:
fun,news,weather,information,muisic,progress,adivce,equipment,furnitrue,jewellery
Knowledge  知道,了解,熟悉
She has a good knowledge of Shanghai.
她对上海很熟悉。
2)make a difference关系重大;重要;与众不同
e.g .The sea air has made a difference to her health
海上的空气改善了她的健康状况。
What I said makes no difference to him.
